The inauguration ceremony with Carla Nunes as director of the National School of Public Health (ENSP-NOVA) took place on september 26th at the Rectorate of NOVA University Lisbon.

The new director of ENSP-NOVA stated as objective for this four-year term “that ENSP-NOVA grows even more as the public health school of reference at national level”, recognized inside NOVA, with a strong international framework and a dynamic entrepreneurial profile in all contexts of its mission.

Carla Nunes also noted that public health is of unquestionable importance and is increasingly widely recognized by science and society, pointing out that “the core areas of the school focus precisely on the current and major challenges of public health.”

Filomeno Fortes, that also took office as the new director of the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (IHMT) said he is is fully aligned with the strategy of NOVA University Lisbon, launching the challenge of establishing partnerships and synergies between the various NOVA schools and, in particular, with ENSP-NOVA.

The Rector, João Sàágua, closed the session by reaffirming full support to the new directors and highlighting the importance of public health, international health and the connection with the CPLP for the university’s strategic project. Moreover, the Rector congratulated the willingness that both schools expressed to collaborate. “If our schools collaborate with each other, the university can more easily reach higher and more difficult goals, and that is not possible without the people and, particularly, without the commitment of the leaders of these schools.”
