Publicado a 22/02/2022

The WHO Collaborating Center for Education, Research and Evaluation of Safety and Quality in Healthcare, represented by Professor Paulo Sousa, will be present at the International Forum Policy Makers Forum: Patient Safety Implementation. This event is promoted by the World Health Organization and it will be held on a virtual format on February 23 and 24, 2022.

The main objective of this forum is to discuss implementation approaches of the Global Action Plan for Patient Safety 2021-2030. Several decision-makers, healthcare leaders, patient safety experts, academic and intergovernmental organizations will participate in this event, including United Nations and the European Union agencies, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the World Bank, as well as other important non-government organizations and civil society organizations.

Members of our WHO Collaborating Centre for Education, Research and Evaluation of Safety and Quality in Healthcare will actively participate in those two days of discussion. The specific objectives of this forum focus on the following aspects:

  1. Review the evidence of avoidable harm in health care.
  2. Identify gaps, challenges and barriers in patient safety implementation, and trends in improvements.
  3. Share experiences, best practices and lessons learned in addressing patient safety at policy and practice levels, and implementation approaches, mechanisms and resources for working towards elimination of harm in health care, through a health systems approach.
  4. Recognize and reach a consensus on the role of policy makers and health care leaders at national, subnational, organizational and health care facility levels, in implementation of the Global Patient Safety Action Plan 2021-2030.

This forum will be decisive in defining the next steps of implementation and to involve relevant stakeholders in the concretization of the Global Action Plan for Patient Safety 2021-2030.
