In collaboration with USAID, the JSI Research & Training Institute and the NTP of Uzbekistan (UZB), the National School of Public Health (NOVA NSPH) is leading a project whose mission is to support the improvement of human resource management in the fight against tuberculosis (TB) in the Tashkent region of Uzbekistan.
The TIFA-Uzbekistan – Tuberculosis Implementation Framework Agreement project, coordinated by Alexandre Lourenço, Professor at NOVA NSPH, responds to the need to assess human resources in the context of the epidemiological evolution of tuberculosis and the long-term development of specialized outpatient services in that region for the implementation of activities to respond to the disease.
The NOVA NSPH team, which includes Isabel Albuquerque, Professor at NOVA NSPH, and researchers Joana Seringa and Blandina Dobrescu, made its first visit to the region between October 30 and November 2, on a mission that included interviews with doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians and tuberculosis program coordinators at the Tashkent Regional Tuberculosis Hospital and Clinic.
