The NOVA Nacional School of Public Health (NOVA NSPH) and the Portuguese Council for Health and Environment (CPSA) are organizing the 1st International Course on Health and Environment, aimed at human and animal health professionals, managers, and other professionals in the health field. This training program aims to raise awareness about the impact of environmental determinants on public health and to promote leadership for healthier and more sustainable health systems.
As a global issue responsible for the emergence and exacerbation of various risk factors for human health, the relationship between health and the environment is one of the most pressing concerns of Public Health. “With a strong interactive component and in close connection with the latest evidence in this area, this course offers students the opportunity to learn from a diverse panel of internationally recognized experts and acquire the fundamental skills to lead more resilient and sustainable health systems,” says Marília Sílva Paulo, researcher at NOVA NSPH and co-coordinator of the Course.
Despite being among the main determinants of health in the coming decades, most countries do not include environmental factors in the pre- and post-graduate training of health professionals. “This training addresses the need to raise awareness among health professionals at all levels of education about the impact of climate change and environmental degradation on population health and to provide basic knowledge that enables them to engage in this field,” explains Luís Campos, President of CPSA and co-coordinator of the Course.
The course takes place online, consisting of a total of 12 sessions of 1.5 hours each, on Tuesdays, from April 2nd to June 18th. Applications are open until March 21st on the ENSP NOVA website.
