NOVA NSPH announces its designation as a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center for the area of Health Management. This honorable award reflects NOVA NSPH’s ongoing commitment to promoting excellence in public health and health management, both at the national and international levels, being the first and only WHO Collaborating Center for the area of health management worldwide.
“The designation of NOVA National School of Public Health as a WHO Collaborating Center represents the recognition of the quality of our work in health management, in terms of training and creation of evidence, supporting governance and the transition to a more efficient health system , adaptive, citizen-centered and capable of responding to contemporary health challenges”, says Sónia Dias, Director of NOVA NSPH, adding “…this distinction reinforces our commitment as a reference institution in global public health and health management in particular .”
We welcome the congratulatory message received from the Minister of Health, in which Ana Paula Martins states that: “I congratulate NOVA NSPH for the WHO Collaborating Center for Health Management, being certain that this structure will greatly contribute to the preparation and excellence of leaders in the Health sector. Better management translates into health gains for everyone.”
Alexandre Lourenço, professor at NOVA NSPH and currently President of the Board of the Local Health Unit of Coimbra, who will lead the center, reaffirms that “it will be the mission of the Collaborating Center to contribute to the strengthening of health systems through research, policy development, training of leaders and dissemination of good practices, and this recognition also values the management of health services in Portugal”.
With more than 50 years of experience, the NOVA National School of Public Health of NOVA University Lisboa is an institution dedicated to academic excellence and innovative research with an impact on health and social gains. It thus reinforces its positioning in the pillars of training, innovation, internationalization, and sustainability, leading the transformation of global public health and health management. According to the WHO itself, “…the institution will undertake the development of guidance documents and propose methodologies to support the improvement of hospital governance, management and operational efficiency, facilitating the transition to a more adaptive, patient-centered system and responding to health contemporary challenges.”
