On July 12, 2024, the final conference of PAFSE – Partnerships for Science Education will take place at the Rectory of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa.
Led by ENSP NOVA, under the direction of Prof. Carolina Santos, PAFSE is a European scientific education project that addresses public health challenges.
PAFSE explores science education as a vehicle to provide citizens with knowledge, tools and skills to make informed decisions about public health challenges. The project promotes community preparedness, focusing on risk factors for the health status of individuals, but also on preventive and protective behaviors from a personal and population perspective, contributing to more literate communities about healthy lifestyles, injury prevention, as well as detection, prevention and response to infectious diseases.
Driven by PAFSE, partnerships are established between schools, universities, non-formal education providers, companies and civil society organizations, involving all these entities in the effort to enrich Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education to include issues of public health.
With a focus on building a strong interdisciplinary team, the project consortium integrates into the educational program views of biologists, psychologists, environmental health experts, mathematicians, engineers, project managers, science educators, public health professionals, policy makers and researchers
The final PAFSE 2024 conference will have the theme Open Schooling Innovations for Public Health Education.
