The director of the NOVA National School of Public Health (NOVA NSPH), Sónia Dias, in an interview with ‘O Hospital’ magazine, defended the importance of involving leaders, managers, professionals and citizens to achieve more and better health results.
For Sónia Dias, “we have to reinforce the urgency of prioritizing health promotion and disease prevention, keeping citizens healthy throughout their life cycle, and of moving beyond the almost exclusive focus on disease management and treatment”.
In this context, the director of NOVA NSPH defended the importance of conducting a transformation in health and in the way issues related to the sector are viewed and approached. The future, she argued in the interview, must involve a more concrete and multidisciplinary determination to keep people healthier throughout the different life cycles and, even though we know that there is no single, concrete path to follow, it is important to always bear in mind the idea that the citizen must be at the centre of the health system.
Regarding the role of NOVA NSPH, the director emphasised that the School has been “at the service of Public Health for more than five decades, training leaders and health professionals of great importance and national and international recognition, who combine scientific excellence, the necessary skills and innovation. These are leaders and professionals who are prepared to respond to the current and future challenges of global health, without forgetting fundamental values when we are talking about human lives, such as solidarity, humanism and dignity”.
