Sílvia Lopes is an Assistant Professor at NOVA NSPH. Her research focuses on health care utilization and end-of-life care to increase appropriateness and facilitate better transitions in health care. Her recent work includes studying the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on emergency department (ED) utilization, utilization of ED care shortly after inpatient discharge, and healthcare utilization in the last year of life.
Currently, is working on a EU-funded project called EOLinPLACE, which aims to create the first international classification tool to map preferred and actual places of death. The project is hosted at the University of Coimbra.
PhD in Public Health from NOVA University Lisbon, a postgraduation in Hospital Administration from the NOVA NSPH and a degree in Economics from the University of Coimbra.
