The new Bachelor’s in Global Public Health at NOVA National School of Public Health (NOVA NSPH), filled all available places in the first phase of the National Admissions Process for Higher Education.
With 42 students admitted, this result marks a particularly significant milestone for NOVA NSPH: the School’s first bachelor’s degree begins with all places filled, confirming, from its very first edition, the relevance and appeal of pioneering training in Global Public Health in Portugal.
Led by NOVA NSPH, in partnership with NOVA Medical School, NOVA’s Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Aga Khan University, the Bachelor’s Degree in Global Public Health will begin in September 2026 and was designed to train a new generation of professionals prepared to understand and respond to the major challenges facing Public Health, in Portugal and worldwide.
For Sónia Dias, Director of NOVA NSPH, this result “confirms the importance of opening Public Health to new generations of students and of establishing this field as central to addressing contemporary challenges in health, sustainability, digital transformation and global cooperation”.
“This bachelor’s degree represents a new chapter in NOVA NSPH’s mission. We want to train professionals who are able to think in an interdisciplinary way, act based on scientific evidence and contribute to healthier, more equitable and resilient societies. The fact that all places were filled in the very first phase shows that there are young people who recognise Public Health as a field of the future, with a real impact on people’s lives,” she emphasises.
The six-semester degree, corresponding to 180 ECTS credits, is accredited by the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES) and the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (APHEA), ensuring international standards of quality and academic excellence.
The curriculum combines theoretical and practical training, including projects, case studies, seminars and opportunities for students to engage with partner institutions, bringing them closer to the real-world challenges of Public Health. Areas covered include health policies and systems, digital health and artificial intelligence, sustainability, communication, governance and epidemiology.
The new bachelor’s degree is aimed at students who aspire to develop a career with national and international impact, in the public and private sectors, civil society organisations, universities, research centres, international organisations and multilateral cooperation and development agencies.
Graduates will be prepared to work in areas such as Public Health crisis prevention and management, health planning and governance, data analysis and artificial intelligence, public policy, environmental sustainability, communication and health promotion.
