The National School of Public Health of NOVA University Lisbon (NOVA NSPH) once again features on the prestigious “World’s Top 2% Scientists” list, compiled by Stanford University, which identifies the most influential scientists globally.
This year, NOVA NSPH counts two faculty members among the most cited researchers in the world: Susana Viegas, who has been included in the ranking since 2021, and Christopher J. Millett, who appears on the 2025 edition of the list for the first time.
The recognition reflects the scientific excellence and international impact of research carried out at NOVA NSPH, in the areas of public health, environmental and occupational health, and global health policy.
Published annually since 2020, the “World’s Top 2% Scientists” list results from an analysis conducted at Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier, based on the Scopus database through the TopSCINET platform. The ranking covers 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields and considers indicators such as the number of citations, the h-index, and other standardised bibliometric parameters, identifying the top 2% of most-cited researchers worldwide.
“This distinction is a source of great pride for NOVA NSPH and demonstrates the global relevance of the research conducted here, always with a strong commitment to public health and scientific knowledge in the service of people”, emphasises the Dean of NOVA NSPH.
“The inclusion of Professors Susana Viegas and Christopher J. Millett in this international ranking strengthens NOVA NSPH’s position as a reference in scientific production in public and environmental health, highlighting the School’s central role in education, research, and innovation in this field in Portugal and worldwide”, adds Sónia Dias.
