Project Summary / Breve Descrição do Projeto:

The project aims to establish an innovative International Classification of Dying Places (ICP) that captures individuals’ preferences and actual experiences regarding their places of death. To achieve this, it will utilize a combination of traditional health classification methods and a participatory research approach involving patients and family representatives.

The research will begin with international comparative analyses of existing classifications and place of death data, along with a mixed-methods study in four countries that examines the experiences of patients with life-threatening conditions and their families. Insights gained will inform the development of a contemporary classification system, which will undergo content validity assessment through focus groups with patients, caregivers, and stakeholders. Finally, the classification will be tested in various settings to evaluate its construct validity, reliability, responsiveness, data quality, and interpretability, ultimately enhancing understanding of different end-of-life pathways in caregiving environments.
