A training program that prepares professionals to analyze and influence health policies, using economic tools to promote more efficient and equitable healthcare systems.
Field of Knowledge: Health Economics
By the end of the training, participants will be able to apply economic concepts to healthcare, analyze the performance of the NHS from an economic and political perspective, identify gaps and alternatives for improvement, and develop skills to implement effective changes. Additionally, they should recognize the role of stakeholders, their motivations and barriers, and propose actions to align efforts with the public interest.
After presenting the main concepts, this training will delve into central aspects of the political economy of health, namely the macroeconomic environment, the morbidity profile of the population, the public-private articulation in financing and service delivery, and the role of patient associations. This knowledge frames key aspects of health policy and will allow for a better understanding and critical reading of scientific contributions in this area, while also facilitating the acquisition of greater reflection and action capacity regarding health policies, both in Portugal and globally.
The awarding of 4 ECTS requires a positive result in the final assessment.
