    Susana Viegas is a Professor at NOVA’s National School of Public Health. Her research focuses on the environmental determinants of health, specifically the chemical exposures of workers and the general population, and the use of the ‘One Health’ approach to better deal with environmental determinants. She also works on the best ways to put the scientific framework into practice for policy in areas such as environmental and occupational health, and on the impacts of climate change on public health.

    Her recent work includes assessing exposure and risk to chemicals and natural toxins under different exposure scenarios, taking into account the influence of climate change and other determinants of exposure.

    He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the European Environment Agency and a member of the Risk Assessment Committee of the European Chemicals Agency. She is also a member of the Technical Advisory Group on Occupational Burden of Disease Estimation (TAG-OBoDE) of the World Health Organisation. She was a guest scientist at the International Agency for Research on Cancer – World Health Organisation (IARC-WHO).

    She has a PhD in Public Health from the NOVA National School of Public Health , a Master’s degree in Applied Toxicology from the University of Surrey and in Occupational Health from the University of Lisbon, and a degree in Environmental Health from the Lisbon School of Health Technology.
