The NOVA National School of Public Health (NOVA NSPH) hosted the Health Data Workshop, a collaborative event between NOVA NSPH ‘s Public Health Impact Knowledge Centre, the Nova SBE Health Economics & Management Knowledge Centre and the Portuguese Association of Health Economics.
The event, which took place on 19 March, began with presentations by André Trindade, president of the Board of Directors of ACSS, IP, António Teixeira Rodrigues, director of Evidence and Health Solutions at ANF, and Eduarda Góis, director of Living Conditions Statistics Services at INE. The three speakers shared their experiences and the data available from the institutions they represent.
This was followed by collaborative sessions where event participants debated potential research questions using the databases presented, with guidance from the speakers and a member of the organisation.
“The availability and effective use of health data is fundamental to evidence-based decision-making and the creation of more informed public policies. With this workshop, we aim not only to map existing data, but also to foster a culture of collaboration between researchers and institutions, ensuring that this information is used strategically to improve the health of the population”, says Joana Alves, coordinator of the Knowledge Centre Public Health Impact.
“This workshop demonstrated how collaboration between different institutions can enhance the use of health data more effectively. We want to build bridges between those who produce and those who use this data, promoting new research opportunities and ensuring that the information available contributes to better health policies and practices,” adds Joana Alves.
Following the event, NOVA NSPH invites anyone interested in the topic to contribute to the creation of a catalogue to promote more and better use of existing data in Portugal, by filling in the following form.
