    Vasco Ricoca Peixoto is an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology and a researcher at the Public Health Research Centre of the National School of Public Health – NOVA. His areas of interest include identifying factors associated with health outcomes; epidemiological surveillance and epidemic intelligence; preparedness and response to public health emergencies; impact, effectiveness, and safety of interventions and policies; prevention and control of infectious diseases, global health and pandemics (COVID-19), quality in healthcare services, access and data integration, economic evaluation in health, culture and public health, social networks and public health, climate change and public health.

     

    A Specialist in Public Health Medicine at the Santa Maria Local Health Unit and a collaborator at the Public Health Emergencies Centre of the Directorate-General of Health, Portugal.

    Supervises fellows of the European Programme for Intervention Epidemiology Training (EPIET) of the ECDC at the DGS and is a guest trainer in several modules of the programme. He is a member of the ASPHER Public Health Emergencies Task-Force and a review editor at Frontiers in Public Health. He was part of the Evaluation Committees of the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES) for medical courses and was a member of the Executive Committee of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation for the project Boas Escolhas, Melhor Saúde.

     

    Holding a PhD in Public Health and a specialization course in the same field from the National School of Public Health – NOVA, he also holds a Master’s degree in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon. He is an alumnus of the European Programme for Intervention Epidemiology Training (EPIET) of the ECDC in partnership with the DGS and an auditor of the National Defence Course.
