João Pereira is a Full Professor at the NOVA NSPH, a member of the Center for Public Health Research (CISP) and the Comprehensive Health Research Centre (CHRC). His areas of research include measurement of equity and inequality in health, economic evaluation of health programs and technologies and financing of health systems.
Throughout his career, he has been Director of NOVA NSPH (2011-2019), President of the Scientific and Pedagogical Boards at NOVA NSPH, President of the Portuguese Health Economics Association (APES), Editor-in-Chief of the Portuguese Journal of Public Health, a consultant for international organizations such as the WHO, EC, DFID-UK and the World Bank, and a member of various Commissions and Expert Groups of the Portuguese Government. He is the author or editor of eight books and several articles in scientific journals and books on the economic aspects of health.
He holds a DPhil in Economics from the University of York, an aggregation in Public Health/Health Economics from NOVA University Lisbon, a Master’s in Health Economics from the University of York and a degree in Economics and Politics from the University of Warwick.
