    João Pereira is a Full Professor of Health Economics at the NOVA National School of Public Health, a member of the Center for Public Health Research (CISP) and the Comprehensive Health Research Centre (CHRC).

    His areas of academic interest include Measuring equity in health, Economic evaluation of health programs and technologies, Financing health systems and Public Health. In addition to his academic activities, he is President of the General Council of the Lisbon School of Nursing.

    Throughout his career, he has been President of the Portuguese Association of Health Economics (APES), Editor-in-Chief of the Portuguese Journal of Public Health, a consultant for international organizations such as the WHO, EC, DFID-UK and the World Bank, and a member of various Commissions and Expert Groups of the Portuguese Government. He is the author or coordinator of eight books and several articles in magazines and books on the economic aspects of health.

    He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of York, an aggregate in Public Health / Health Economics from NOVA  University  Lisbon, a master’s degree in Health Economics from the University of York and a degree in Economics and Politics from the University of Warwick.
