    Maria João Marques is a Researcher at NOVA NSPH and a member of the Comprehensive Health Research Center (CHRC). She has extensive experience in international and national projects on health promotion for groups experiencing vulnerabilities, health literacy, mental health, and access to services for prevention, early detection, comprehensive care and disease management. Her work involves developing and evaluating complex interventions using implementation science, behavioral sciences, mixed methods, and participatory approaches to reduce health and healthcare inequities. She also teaches at postgraduate and doctoral levels.

    Maria João Marques is a member of the National Coordination for Mental Health Policies (Ministry of Health) and co-coordinator of the NOVA Aging and Health Group. She collaborates with the Research Department of Behavioural Science and Health at University College London (UCL) and is an active member of the INTERDEM network and the Portuguese Society of Family Therapy (SPTF). She contributes to several UN expert panels, including the WHO.

     

    Maria João Marques has a PhD in Global Public Health from NOVA Medical School (NMS), a MSc in Health and Aging from NMS, a MSc in International Development and Economics from ISEG, and a BA in International Affairs from ISCSP. She also has specialization in economics, political sciences, and governance from Sciences Po Paris and in program and policy evaluation from Carleton University. She previously held positions as Head of Evaluation & Research at the Aga Khan Foundation and Detached Expert at the European Commission.
