    Paula Lobato de Faria is an associate professor at ENSP-NOVA. She coordinates several curricular units in the areas of health and research law and ethics in the courses of this institution and has been the President of the CE-ENSP (Ethics Commission) since 2020. Her main academic interests lie in the application of law and ethics to health, including legislative, social, and economic policies for disease prevention and the promotion of healthy and violence-free lifestyles. She has taught, presented, and published nationally and internationally on topics such as human rights, suicide prevention, confidentiality and protection of health and genetic data, communicable diseases, patient safety, patients’ rights and duties, biobanks, and genome editing.

    Over the years, Paula Lobato de Faria has held various noteworthy positions and engaged in several activities. She has been a Member of the General Board of NOVA, Coordinator of the Department of Social Sciences in Health, and Coordinator of the scientific committee of the PhD program in public health at ENSP. Additionally, she has been the Coordinator of the Master in Health Management, Vice-President of the Scientific Council of ENSP, and Member of the Committee of the Doctoral School of NOVA. She has also served as a Guest expert on several panels of the European Commission for the scientific and ethical evaluation of projects and as an Independent observer of the evaluation process in the area of Risk Governance and Ethics, Program FP6-2005-Science-and-Society. Furthermore, she was the Coordinator of the National Commission of the United Nations Decade for Human Rights Education in Portugal and a Member of the expert groups that drafted the national legislation on epidemiological surveillance and confidentiality of genetic data.

    PhD in Law from the Université Montesquieu (Bordeaux-France), with a degree recognized by the Faculty of Law of the NOVA University Lisbon, a master’s degree in Health Law from the University of Bordeaux and a degree in Law (legal-economic mention) from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon.
