Webinar “Migration and Health in Lusophone contexts: What are the challenges and which opportunities for action?”
With a focus on Lusophone countries, the webinar will begin with presentations by 4 invited speakers from Portugal, Brazil, Cape Verde and Mozambique, exploring context-relevant challenges in the context of migrants’ health including increasing chronic disease burden, social vulnerability, gender inequalities, climate change, and how to address them, aligned with the GSMERH World Congress 2025 sub-themes. The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion, open to the audience participation, to reflect on the broadness of the topics explored.
The webinar starts at 11:30 Brazil, 13:30 Cape Verde, 14:30 Portugal and 16:30 Mozambique.
This webinar will last 90 minutes.

Chronic disease among migrants and the role of health literacy development for prevention and control (15 min) – Ana Gama (National School of Public Health, NOVA University Lisbon);
Social Vulnerability as a driver for migrant’s health inequalities (15 min) – Ricardo Arcêncio (Ribeirão Preto School of Nursing of University of São Paulo);
Gender inequalities and violence in the context of migrants’ health (15 min) – Clementina Furtado (University of Cape Verde);
Climate change and migration (15 min) – Fáuzia Carlos (Climate, Environment and Health Platform of the National Health Observatory of Mozambique);
Pannel discussion – Moderator: Inês Fronteira (National School of Public Health, NOVA University Lisbon) (20 min);
Closing remarks (5 min) – details on the GSMERH 2025.
