The Library’s Reading Room is open to the public from Monday to Friday, from 10:00 to 12:30 and from 13:30 to 17:00. It is located on the entrance floor of NOVA NSPH, at the end of the corridor on the right-hand side.
This space is equipped with study tables and computer terminals, allowing users to access the physical collection. Visitors have direct access to shelves for on-site consultation of books, scientific journals, technical reports, encyclopaedias, and other reference works, as well as theses, dissertations, and selected academic papers defended at NOVA NSPH.
The collection is classified by subject according to the UDC (Universal Decimal Classification) system, focusing on the most relevant categories for the NOVA NSPH academic community. When searching for a document in the catalogue, users should take note of its shelf mark, which indicates its location on the shelves. Shelf marks are found at the base of the spine or in the bottom left corner of the cover and consist of two or three elements:
- The CDU class corresponding to the document’s main subject;
- The first three letters of the surname of the primary author (if there are up to three authors);
- The first three letters of the title.
Documents are arranged in numerical order according to CDU classification, followed by the alphabetical order of the remaining elements in the shelf mark.
After consultation, documents should be left on the tables or returned to the service desk.
Documents marked with an “R” at the top of the spine, as well as the periodicals collection, are reserved for exclusive consultation in the Reading Room to ensure their availability at all times.
The home loan service is available to the entire ENSP academic community and its alumni, who must complete a “Reader Registration Form” at the Library. External readers may only use on-site reading services.
Each reader may borrow up to three documents for a period of eight working days, renewable twice, provided there is no other reader on the waiting list.
Loan requests must be made in person by filling in a request form for each document. Renewals can be requested by email at: docinfo@ensp.unl.pt.
Reserved works, identified by an “R” at the top of the spine, may only be taken out for home reading between the Reading Room’s closing time each day and its reopening on the next working day.
Periodicals and reference works are available exclusively for on-site consultation, but they may be temporarily taken out for partial reproduction, on a self-service basis.
Returns can be made at the Library during its opening hours or at the NOVA NSPH reception desk at any time or day of the week, to facilitate adherence to deadlines.
In order to expand access to specialized sources of information not available in the collections of the NOVA NSPH Library, an interlibrary loan service is provided through partnerships with other Portuguese libraries.
This service may be subject to postal fees, which will be borne by the requesting borrower, in accordance with the current regulations.
For more information, please contact the Library team at docinfo@ensp.unl.pt.
