The NOVA National School of Public Health (NOVA NSPH) expresses its profound sorrow at the passing of Dr. Delfim Rodrigues, a key figure in the history of healthcare in Portugal and one of the most distinguished Hospital Administrators trained at our institution.
A Law graduate with a postgraduate degree in Hospital Administration from NOVA NSPH, Delfim Rodrigues dedicated his entire professional life to the National Health Service (SNS), which he served with strategic vision, innovative spirit, and unwavering commitment to the common good. He was a man of integrity — humble, approachable, and gifted with exceptional human and technical qualities — widely recognised by all who had the privilege of working with him.
Throughout his extensive and exemplary career, he held positions of great responsibility, including Director-General for Hospitals, Director-General of Health, President of the Lisbon and Tagus Valley Regional Health Administration, and member of various Hospital Boards. He was also the Coordinator of the National Programme for the Implementation of Home Hospitalisation, one of the most innovative initiatives in the recent history of the SNS.
NOVA NSPH recalls with admiration his legacy and active voice in the construction and modernisation of the SNS. His dedication, generosity and vision have left a lasting mark on generations of professionals and continue to inspire all those who work for health in Portugal.
