The NOVA National School of Public Health of NOVA University of Lisbon (NOVA NSPH) took part in the ISES European Chapter Workshop 2025, held in Lisbon from 20 to 22 October, with a total of six scientific works presented, four posters and two oral communications.
The event, organised by the International Society of Exposure Science (ISES), European Chapter, brought together researchers, professionals, and students from various national and international institutions to discuss scientific advances in environmental and occupational exposure assessment and their impact on public health.
NOVA NSPH’s participation, through its Department of Occupational and Environmental Health, stood out for the thematic diversity and relevance of the studies presented, reflecting the School’s strong commitment to research in environmental and occupational health:
- Biomonitoring as a Key Tool for Protecting Public Health by Assessing Environmental and Occupational Exposures – NOVA National School of Public Health (NOVA NSPH) commitment and action (poster)
- Interventions to improve environmental sustainability of healthcare institutions and their impact on environmental indicators: a scoping review – AmbiSaúde project (poster)
- Exposure to chemicals during pregnancy: Do cytochrome P450 activity changes increase risk? – NEMESIS project (poster)
- A comparative analysis of indoor air quality policies: legal framework and standards across countries – K-HEALTHinAIR project (poster)
- Occupational exposure to cadmium in the European Union: First results from a scoping review (oral communication)
- Burden of ischemic heart disease attributable to nitrogen dioxide exposure in Portugal (oral communication)
Susana Viegas and Carla Martins also participated in the conference as members of the Scientific Committee, while other members of the team were part of the organising committee.
The presence of NOVA NSPH at this international meeting reinforces the School’s institutional commitment and interdisciplinary research in environmental and occupational health, contributing actively to the scientific debate on current and future challenges in these fields.
