The NOVA National School of Public Health of (NOVA NSPH) is establishing the Public Health Technological Interface Centre (CITSP), a new infrastructure dedicated to transforming scientific knowledge into practical solutions, products and services capable of responding to the needs of society and the health system.
The project is funded by the Lisbon Regional Programme 2021-2027 (LISBOA2030), through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), within the framework of strategic investment in the region’s competitiveness, innovation and internationalisation. It represents a concrete commitment to strengthening the public health innovation ecosystem. The total investment amounts to €397,000.
The CITSP will be located on the NOVA NSPH campus in Lumiar and will include refurbished, technologically advanced spaces designed to stimulate business idea development, applied research and technology transfer. The structure will integrate several areas, including R&D&I and simulation spaces, training and co-working areas, a Technology Transfer Office (TTO) to facilitate links with the business sector and the innovation ecosystem, as well as spaces to support the incubation of start-ups and spin-offs.
The CITSP will also offer smart services, collaborative experimentation environments and appropriate conditions to support both the development of new technologies and the strengthening of links between NOVA NSPH, companies, public bodies, health units, municipalities, associations and investors.
According to the Director of NOVA NSPH, this project reflects the institution’s commitment to innovation and social impact. “The Public Health Technological Interface Centre is a key element of our strategy to transform scientific knowledge into tangible solutions for population health. By creating an environment conducive to collaboration between researchers, entrepreneurs and the business sector, we will be accelerating innovation in public health, promoting more efficient health systems and healthier communities”, emphasises Sónia Dias.
The CITSP will also play a decisive role in promoting the green and digital transitions in the health sector, supporting business creation, the development of scalable solutions and the internationalisation of precision public health research.
The co-financed operation is expected to be completed by June 2027.
