    A training program that provides participants with a comprehensive approach to active and healthy aging, exploring the social, political, and health implications of population aging, while developing a critical understanding of health inequalities, analyzing public policies, and designing effective strategies to ensure the quality of life for the elderly population, with an emphasis on protection, prevention, and health promotion.

     

    OBJECTIVES | BENEFITS

     

    Participants will gain an understanding of global and national population aging dynamics and their implications for public policies, especially concerning health and social protection. They will be empowered to identify and analyze the inequalities and inequities affecting the elderly population, developing skills to implement effective health promotion measures and prevent age-specific diseases.

    COURSE SYLLABUS

     

    Population aging – trends in demographic transition and epidemiological transition worldwide and in Portugal, and the international agenda for active and healthy aging;
    Social determinants of health and their implications for active and healthy aging;
    Autonomy and independence in the elderly – how to assess?;
    Frailty and geriatric syndromes;
    Health promotion and aging;
    The elderly in society: violence and stereotypes;
    Bioethics and end-of-life care;
    Service modalities and management of elderly care;
    Formal and informal care for dependent elderly: implications for the act of caregiving;
    Innovative practices in care, protection, and health promotion for the elderly and in the processes of self-management of their health.

    CERTIFICATION

     

    The awarding of 4 ECTS requires a positive result in the final assessment.
