    SUCCESS STORIES

    Project ColoRIR

The ColoRIR project, created by Filipa Barata, Andreia Ferreira, Jeanete Calderón, and Joana Osório, students of the Postgraduate Course in Health Project Management at ENSP NOVA, was the grand winner of the NOVA ImpACT! Challenges.

The ColoRIR project aims to address a significant public health issue—Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs). HAIs are infections acquired by patients during health care and medical procedures. According to the DGS (Directorate-General of Health), the annual prevalence rate of HAIs in Portugal is 7.6%, leading to an additional 9 days of hospitalization per patient, significant economic costs, and a mortality rate of 15.7%. These infections present a major and preventable public health challenge.

    eBREATHIE PROJECT

Ana Rita Constante, Diana Gonçalves, Elsa Inocêncio, Inês Sampaio, students of the Postgraduate Course in Health Project Management at ENSP NOVA, win the NOVA ImpACT! Challenges with the project “Easy Breathie”.

eBreathie is a new smart inhaler designed to empower asthma patients in managing their condition, ultimately improving their quality of life!

The project aims to address the difficulties in using inhalation therapeutic devices (used for treating various respiratory diseases like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) by creating a connectable and adaptable medical device for inhalers. This device will not only monitor when the medication is taken but will also evaluate how it is taken (providing insight into its effectiveness). All collected data will be shared with the patient through an app, giving them more control over their condition. Additionally, the data can be shared with the doctor, enabling remote communication with healthcare services.
