The Public Health Research Centre (PHRC/CISP) is the first research centre recognized by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) exclusively dedicated to Public Health and also integrates the Comprehensive Health Research Centre (CHRC), the new research centre in the clinical, public health and health services areas, recently appraised as Excellent by FCT.
Research in Public Health aims at contributing to understanding the population health and at analyzing the central role of health systems and organizations. It also means guiding this understanding effort to the most emerging, current and complex public health challenges: aging, chronic diseases, endemic diseases, epidemics and pandemics, economic crises and unsustainable growth in health expenditures, inequities and inequities in health, environmental threats, technological development and innovative therapies, patient safety and quality of health care.
The PHRC/CISP mission is inspired and motivated by these challenges, to which it responds not only through research, but also through establishing bridges with the society, and through the involvement in the design of health policies, according to best practices in Public Health at national and international level.
The PHRC/CISP is based at the ENSP-NOVA, which is at the origin of its creation. Like ENSP-NOVA, the research developed at PHRC/CISP is multi and transdisciplinary, and results from the work of specialists in areas as diverse as occupational health, health promotion, health management, health economics, epidemiology and statistics, law and Ethics.
The PHRC/CISP collaborates with several national and international health research centers and welcomes all researchers who wish to contribute to the common goal of a high quality public health research recognized in Portugal and in the world.
